An informed diplomatic source revealed on Monday, renewed the claim of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the Iraqi government to meet its promises and cancel the support on the prices of many materials, including petroleum and energy derivatives along with the ration card.

The source, who asked not to be named, told "Shafaq News", that "the IMF renewed its call for Iraq to cancel the support on oil and energy derivatives as well as the ration card."

He added that "IMF has supported Iraq during the past period, as part of an agreement that includes in contrast canceling the support from the Iraqi citizens."

"This support includes petroleum and energy and the ration card, as the Iraqi government had requested a period until the improvement of the Iraqi citizen income."

"IMF will increase its support for Iraq if the Iraqi government didn’t meet its obligations to cancel support from the Iraqi citizens."

The source explained that "Iraq still needs the support of the International Monetary Fund in many aspects, including upgrading the fragile economic reality experienced by the country."

The IMF had demanded earlier, the Iraqi government to cancel the support on oil products and energy, as well as canceling the support on the ration card as a condition for providing loans to Iraq.

IMF had announced extending the period of the financial assistance program to Iraq for seven months, which offers a total assistance of $ 3.6 billion.

The Fund approved in February of 2024, the loan to cover the needs of the country's payments budgets and has since awarded two installments of assistance in October 2024 and March 2024.
