Sit-ins were held in Hawijah, Kirkuk, Iraq, starting from early 2024, following a nation-wide trend. Amongst other demands, the demonstrators were seeking the release of detainees and the cancelation of the fourth article of the Iraqi Anti-Terrorism Law, which allows the death sentence of those charged with terrorism and related activities.

Members of the International Anti-Occupation Network (I.A.O.N.) coming from Portugal, Algeria, Belgium, France, Iraq, Jordan, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and the UK, representing many international NGOs, met in Lisbon from October 11-13 to discuss developments in Iraq and its future.
