Iraqi Revolution and the specter of jihadist extremism

"The Military Council of the Revolution, formed by the former Iraqi army military, youth of the revolution and tribal members, is coordinating the military struggle of different groups against the Maliki government, heir to the political system imposed by the U.S. occupation".


Dr. Sheikh Mohammed Bashar al-Faidhi, spokesman of the Association of Muslim Scholars, said that what is happening in Iraq today is a popular revolution against the policy of oppression, marginalization and exclusion pursued by successive governments under the brutal occupation, including the current Maliki government.


AMSI: Iraqi rebels, not ISIS, who face the Iraqi army

The Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq (AMSI) said on Friday that describing the rebels who drove the Iraqi army from several cities as operatives of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) is incorrect.


Maliki lost Sunni Iraq through his sectarian and authoritarian policies. His repeated refusal over long years to strike an urgently needed political accord with the Sunni minority, his construction of corrupt, ineffective and sectarian state institutions, and his heavy-handed military repression in those areas are the key factors in the long-developing disintegration of Iraq.
